Dracula aphrodes is an epiphytic orchid in the genus Dracula.

Description[]

A fairly broad-leaved Dracula with upright spikes containing successive, medium sized blooms that are speckled with tan on the inside, and variously speckled with purple outside. Genetic, morphological, and distribution evidence suggest this is a natural hybrid between Dracula verticulosa and Dracula insolita. Several clones exist in cultivation with slightly different colorations.

The plant is distinguished by the three uninterrupted ridges on the lips and its pink epichile on the lip.[1]

Distribution[]

Found in area of Ginebra/Costa Rica in the Valle de Cauca (Colombia), growing sympatrically with its putative parents, Dracula insolita and Dracula verticulosa.

Culture[]

Cool, shady, breezy, continuously moist. Pot the plant in fine bark with perlite or sphagnum moss. Water regularly and keep potting media moist.

Naming[]

Etymology: aphrodes means foamy, a reference to the appearance of the lip.[1]

Common Name:The foamy Dracula
