Dracula berthae is an epiphytic orchid in the genus Dracula.

Description[]

A singular species with in the genus, in more ways that one. Only one plant has ever been found, of which all plants in cultivation are divisions. The plant is small with narrow leaves. Blooms project basally, with one bloom per inflorescence. The lip is small and undeveloped for a Dracula. The ovary has crest-like structures which has lead to its inclusion in Costatae.

Distribution[]

Collected only once from the province of Boyaca (Colombia) near Arcabuco, 2300-2600 m, in 1976. This area has been frequented often by persons experienced in Dracula and the species has never been found before or since.

Culture[]

Cool, shady, evenly moist, breezy. Pot the plant in fine bark with perlite or sphagnum moss. Water regularly and keep potting media moist.

Naming[]

Etymology: Named for Sra. Bertha S. de Laserna of Bogota, Colombia, in whose collection this species was originally found.
