Plants in this genus are distributed from Brazil to Northeastern Argentina

Description[]

The flowers of plants in this genus are similar to those of the genus Laelia but the vegetative properties resemble those of the genus Maxillaria.

Culture[]

Plants are grown in cool to intermediate conditions with shade to moderate light. They are usually grown mounted on cork or bark with sphagnum moss. Plants should be watered regularly. Keep the mix moist but not wet. The plant can also take dryouts between waterings. Keep the plant in an area with good air circulation.

The genus is named after Princess Isabel, daughter of emperor Pedro II, of Brazil
