Masdevallia amabilis is a species in the Masdevallia genus.
Description[]
Plant blooms from summer through winter with a single 3.6 cm wide flower.
The plant was discovered in 1850 by Warszewicz and the dried species was described by Reichenbach later in 1854. The plant was firs cultivated in Europe in 1872 when Roezl brought living specimens to Europe.
Distribution[]
Plant is found growing on trees and rocky slopes in the montane forest of Northern Peru at elevations of 2000 to 5300 meters. In the wild plants are subjected to intense sunlight for several hours per a day.
Culture[]
Keep plant in partial shade to bright light. Plant can be grown in intermediate conditions. Pot the plant in fine bark with perlite or sphagnum moss. Water regularly and keep potting media moist. Dry plants out briefly between waterings.
